Member of the Month is Helen Norman, always great to see you bright and early
What brought you to gain fitness?
I was looking for a new challenge to take my cardio fitness to a different level-challenge myself and see if I could build some strength. After years of a negative relationship with food and exercise I am always looking for a form of training that I actually enjoy as opposed to something I feel I have to do. Gain offers a range of classes and varied programming that has me looking forward to each and every workout, knowing that it will absolutely kick my butt EVERY.DAMN.TIME.
What do you enjoy the most about gain fitness?
The people! Call me crazy but 6.15-7.15am is by far my favourite hour of each day- getting my day started with amazing, like-minded people, with a laugh, a sing, a sweat, the odd bit of cake….
What is your favourite movement?
The burpee. They’re hideous but you feel like an absolute warrior when you finish a WOD with them in!
What is your least favourite movement?
The EVIL snatch. (But I’ve stopped avoiding WODs that include them and I’m determined that I will master the movement and get some weight on the bar at some point!)
What is your biggest achievement so far?
I’ve recently mastered the double-under and I couldn’t be more excited! I just need to string a few more together unbroken and I’ll be happy.
What are your future goals?
Adding any amount of weight to my bar! I want to continue to learn to develop my technique; building strength to master the pull up, the TTB, the handstand….the list goes on.
What advice would you give a newbie?
Have fun! Remember that everyone was new once and progress comes in different forms and at different rates for everyone. The coaches are awesome and will always help you scale a movement to make sure you get a good workout in regardless.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
