This Months Member of The Month is Andrew Wilkinson 👏
What brought you to Gain Fitness?
Coach Rachel Wilkinson was explaining, to a friend, about CrossFit and suggested he should come and try it, so I said if you go I’ll come with you!
I already had some knowledge from watching Rachel in competition. Some of you may not know that Rachel is my eldest daughter.
What do you enjoy the most about Gain Fitness?
Everybody is very friendly and welcoming, the instructors are very patient and helpful they all explain how to carry out the exercises correctly, it is great fun and I like the challenge!
What is your favourite movement?
I particularly enjoy all the movements in the Fit sessions, it brings back fond memories of winter circuit training sessions with Norfolk Olympiads Athletic Club over 30 years ago!
What is your least favourite movement?
I have found barbell work very challenging, I have never done any barbell lifting before and I find the techniques really hard, however the instructors are always there to explain and encourage.
What is your biggest achievement so far?
I have only been attending Gain for 7 months however I think attending regularly, and seeing my fitness improve, and being involved with a new sport after reaching pensionable age!
What are your future goals?
I find the lifting really hard and it would be easy just to attend the fit sessions, so it is important to get out of my comfort zone and work on weightlifting. My goal is to improve my lifting technique and then I should be able to lift more weight which, I am told, maintains bone density, and that is important as you get older!!
What advice would you give a newbie?
Listen carefully to the instructors, don’t worry about trying to compete with others. Be patient, stick at it, you will see improvement overtime. Ask if you don’t understand and age is no barrier!
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I love going to big live events such as rugby at Twickenham, track and field athletics and the Open Golf Championship plus music gigs. One particular memorable event this year was seeing Joe Bonamassa at the Royal Albert Hall although I also enjoyed seeing Take That at Carrow Road a few days later! (If you haven’t heard of Joe Bonomassa listen to some of his music. He is one of the great blues and rock guitarist! )
