Russ started his journey in the fitness industry back in 2004 when he qualified as a personal trainer. In 2008 Russ re-trained as a teacher at Exeter University specialising in secondary physical education. Securing his first teaching post at Easton and Otley College as a sports coaching lecturer meant re-location from Exeter to Norwich. Continuing his education Russ completed his MSc in Strength and Conditioning at St. Mary’s University Twickenham in 2015. For the past four years Russ has been the Programme Leader for the Sports Coaching Science degree at Easton & Otley College and is heavily involved in coach education in the region.
Russ is also a UKSCA accredited coach and British Weightlifting tutor and met Tom when he was asked to deliver a BWL Level 1 at GAIN 1.0 in 2015. Inevitably Russ ended up trying CrossFit and got hooked and in a bid to understand the methodology he decided to complete the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate in 2017. Russ has been inspired by the GAIN communities drive to improve their health and fitness and the move to GAIN 2.0 gave Russ the opportunity to start coaching and contribute to this positive training environment. Regarding Sport, Russ is a Taekwondo Black Tag and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown belt experiencing medal success at a national level. In his spare time Russ enjoys to surf.
