Why weightlifting is for everyone

GAIN Fitness conducts two specialised barbell classes every week, aimed at improving the technique of the snatch, and the clean & jerk – the two most technical lifts in CrossFit. Our coaches are skilled at breaking down these movements into simple, easy-to-follow steps that will enhance your performance and reduce the risk of injury. Although it may feel awkward when you first try these lifts, with our expert guidance and your dedication, you will make remarkable progress in no time.

Louise started working with Coach Matt, having always been nervous about trying lifts such as the snatch. She doubted her ability to be able to do them, and whether they may aggravate pre-existing niggles she’d been struggling with. 

Prior to working with Matt, Louise had never attempted these lifts before, but after six weeks of training, she has made significant improvements in both her ability and confidence.

Here is what Louise had to say:

Before I started lifting with Coach Matt, I just watched other people wishing I could do that, I was worried I wasn’t fit enough, and worried that I was too old to start lifting with my joints not as strong as they used to be.

Also the moves looked complicated and I’m horrible at retaining new information.
However, Matt has a way of breaking movements down into manageable pieces, which helped me remember, practice and build my confidence in my body’s capabilities which really blew my mind. Turns out I’m not too old, my body is now stronger than ever, including my joints.

I now do CrossFit classes which is an absolute shocker for me and I weight train on my own.
I absolutely love it, me vs me with confidence and reassurance that I’m doing it right, and keeping myself safe.
